Job Overview:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for establishing and overseeing the financial infrastructure of the company with day-to-day responsibilities that include accounts receivable, accounts payable, month-end close, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls.  This role involves collaborating with various departments across the company and presents a unique opportunity to shape the financial future of a high-growth company in the manufacturing space by leading and building out the accounting function. 

As the Company Senior Accountant you will:

• Develop and maintain financial processes, systems, and controls to support a growing company with multiple manufacturing locations.
• Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS).
• Coordinate the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
• Oversee the reconciliation of accounts and resolving discrepancies.
• Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.
• Manage journal entries and month-end closing procedures.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Ensure timely payment of bills and collection of receivables.
• Coordinate and assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns (corporate, sales tax, etc.).
• Ensure tax compliance and identify opportunities for tax savings.
• Develop and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
• Identify opportunities for streamlining accounting processes and systems.
• Recommend and implement best practices for accounting functions.
• Assist in the implementation of accounting software solutions, including SAP Business One
• Provide actionable advice to leadership on practical ideas to automate various accounting functions and work across team to implement.
• Support external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulations.
• Work with CFO to support investor reporting, bank reporting, and company financing.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 
• CPA certification Required
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
• Experience working with or for early-stage companies preferred
• Solid understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP)
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with data analysis and financial modeling a plus
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment with a proactive, detailed-oriented, problem-solving mindset
• Self-starter / self-learner with demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new business types
• Ability to work onsite minimum of 3 days /week
• Ability to travel within Michigan up to 40% annually during first year of employment
